"I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less."
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."

17 Month Stats

HEIGHT/WEIGHT/TOOTH COUNT: 34 inches, 24 lbs., still 6 teeth. Not many physical changes since last month, but he seems to be perfecting his motor skills. Seems more coordinated and precise in his movements.

PERSONALITY: Such a ham--he is developing a sense of humor! He loves to laugh--if we are having adult conversation and start to laugh amongst ourselves, he will chime in with his chuckling too, as if he totally gets the joke. He likes experimenting with facial expressions to make us laugh. If he wants to show us something or wants us to do something, he will come and pull on our shirt or arm to get us to stand up, then he guides us by the finger to the destination (usually to open a door or something.) He has an affinity for cleanliness (like his parents) and doesn't like having stuff on his hands. He also picks string/lint/paper off the floor and throws it away. I did NOT teach him that! He wipes up his slobber if we give him a towel, and will wipe his runny nose if we hand him a tissue.

WHAT HE'S LEARNED: He can take his socks and pants off (with a little assistance), he is a pro at blowing kisses, he holds a finger up when you ask him how old he is (if he's in the mood), he can walk down the stairs by himself (holding onto the rails), he finally figured out how to ride his trike by moving his feet, he enjoys spinning around in circles, he ID's his knees, belly button, chin and cheeks, he figured out how to get up his slide and go down by himself, he likes walking around and kicking a ball, he shakes his head "no" (usually when I ask if he wants to get in his bed or get out of the bathtub or change his diaper...). Can ID common household fixtures like light, fan, chair, table, floor, door, garage, window, fridge, etc. But no speaking yet really. Just LOTS of jabbering.

FAVORITE FOODS: Meat sticks (still), mixed veggies, rotisserie chicken from Wal-Mart, Uncle Ben's instant rice in a bag (he loves the whole grain brown and wild rice-and it's so easy! Just microwave the little bag for 1 1/2 minutes), colby jack cheese slices, kix, oatmeal, yogurt

SCHEDULE: Up around 7, breakfast immediately or we hear ALL about it! He's transitioning from two naps to one, so it varies from day to day. If it's 2--then the first one is from 9-10, the 2nd is from 1-2 ish; if it's 1--then it's from 11-2ish. Lunch somewhere in between, dinner around 5, to bed at 7.

FAVORITE PEOPLE: Anyone holding food.

FAVORITE BOOKS: We've been reading Christmas stories, he also likes books with just pictures that he can point to and we say what it is.

FAVORITE TOYS: crayons, his miniature screwdrivers from his Handy Manny playset

FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: scribbling, "unscrewing" anything with screws he can get his hands on (the baby gate, the space heater), shutting himself (and us) in small rooms with the lights off (bathrooms, closets, the pantry--then once we're in there he just screeches and giggles), getting Momma's hairbrushes out of the drawer and running around with them.

FAVORITE SONGS: We've been listening to alot of Christmas music. He has some crazy sick dance moves--he bobs up and down, moves his head, waves his arms around, and waves his hands...

DISLIKES: Hates brushing his teeth. I have to wrap him in his bath towel at nite like a straight jacket to get it done.

FUNNY THINGS HE DID: One day he was all about kissing--he was going around kissing his toys, books, picture frames... It was so cute! Now that we are entering the "terrible two's" we try and see the humor in his tantrums. He's very dramatic, puts on quite a show.
