This was a rougher month than the first. At 4 1/2 weeks old, Harper started having fussy evenings-from about 5:30 till 10. All day long she was as easy as could be, but then at night she was fidgety, and would cry and cry. The only thing that helped her calm down was the sound of the vacuum cleaner. After running it for 4 hours straight one night (and almost burning up the motor), I bought an app for my iPhone that had "soothing baby sounds!" It included a very loud vacuum noise, which paired nicely with the "heart beat" sound at the same time. Right at 7 weeks old, she just stopped having these fussy spells! It was like a switch went off.
4 1/2 weeks: Started holding her head up and cooing
5 1/2 weeks: Went 7 hours and 9 hours between feedings
(although this is not a regular occurrence yet!)
6 1/2 weeks: Had horrible eczema breakout on her head/face/shoulders. Got script from dermatologist for a gel that worked within 12 hours (Desonate)!
Started smiling big at us.
7 1/2 weeks: Discovered her tongue.
8 weeks: Started eating alot more and pooping alot less. The past few days she has seemed a little uncomfortable with the lack of doodies, but her pediatrician says it's normal at this age for their bodies to absorb all the breastmilk.
Took first bath with her big brother!
Aside from her mild colicky phase, Harper is very laid back and content. She falls asleep on her own for the most part (but wants her night-night put back in until she's good and asleep, then she spits it out), and seems to be much calmer than Brax was. She doesn't like to be swaddled like he did. She doesn't want her pacifier ("night-night") when she's wide awake. Sometimes she'll find her fist and that makes her happy! I love how she's starting to "talk." I can tell she wants so badly to make some noise-she'll open her mouth and move her tongue around, and move her arms and legs like she's trying so hard to get the sound out! Every now and then she'll get a squawk out, it's so cute.
